Medicine is not only a science; it is also an art. It does not consist of compounding pills and plasters; it deals with the very processes of life, which must be understood before they may be guided.
Paracelsus (Theophrastus von Hohenheim 1493 – 1541)
Good bacteria
Most of us understand that there are good and friendly bacteria.
We have known for years that humans are covered in bacteria that do us no harm and we now realize that we also harbor trillons of them in our gut. We also have to have contact with organisms in our environment otherwise our immune system cannot function properly. This microbial flora is our microbiome. It’s incredibly complex, and absolutely vital to our health.

This system needs to be constantly retuned by repeated exposure to beneficial environmental bacteria – or Old Friends- which modern life often means we are no longer in contact with. We simply cannot live without interacting properly with them. They regulate inflammation, helping our immune system to determine what to fight and what to leave alone. They also communicate with the brain, via the gut-brain axis.

Without exposure to them, we are at risk of inflammatory disorders. Anything from Parkinson’s to asthma and allergies and, of course, mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.

For the last 20 years, our team has been researching key non-pathogenic mycobacteria –recently recategorized as mycolicibacteria – and their effect on the immune system. Our relentless research is ongoing. We continue to invest heavily in research and development in the use of M. aurum Aogashima and other novel mycolicibacteria and their potential health benefits.

How M.aurum works

Unlike probiotics, Mycobacteria do not colonize the microbiome. Rather, they pass through unchanged in feces. This is why you need constant exposure to them, and why you have to take immy every day.

When thinking of the gut microbiome, we may only think of bacteria, but there are yeasts, fungi and viruses and even worms involved. It is incredibly sophisticated with specialized cells for all sorts of critically important pathways. Such a complex system needs an adjuvant to function correctly.

M. aurum has an immunoadjuvant effect. It targets the immune cells in the lymph tissue at the end of the small bowel. Once M. aurum is detected, a chain of communication is started – passing information into the immune system as a whole, as well as to regional lymphatic systems and nerve cells which have a direct route to the brain.

It is a wonder of nature.

Not all mycobacteria are created equally.

M. aurum is part of a wider family of mycolicibacteria which includes M. vaccae and M. obuense.

This means that they are non-pathogenic strains within the mycobacterial family. The wider mycobacterial family includes bacteria that cause tuberculosis and leprosy, whereas our strains are incapable of causing disease. This is also why you should beware of using just any mycobacterium.

M. aurum is heat killed after cultivation in our process, adding an additional layer of safety to ensure that human infection does not occur, but it still retains its cell structure and is able to trigger the desired immune response just as effectively.

Mycobacteria and probiotic bacteria
There are several differences between immy and probiotics.

Most probiotics are live organisms that colonize your gut and contribute to the microbiome.

The mycolicibacteria in immy are transient commensals – this means that unlike many other bacteria they do not colonize the gut and do not grow there, but are passed through with feces.

They need to be replenished regularly and this is the case with M. aurum. There is no mechanism for storing M. aurum in the body. The key is regular, repeated exposure. Hence the daily requirement to take immy. When it comes to a healthy microbiome, there are many organisms that are thought to be helpful. Perhaps the best known are lactobacilli, found in yogurt. However there are thousands of different types, and the patterns vary significantly from person to person and country to country.

It is diversity and not individual organisms which matter.

immy is taken once per day. We recommend including it in your daily regimen, so maybe best taken in the morning.

It is typical that if your immune system is highly in need of retuning, you will feel effects within 2 weeks time. We advise to give the product a full 30 day trial as different manifestations of immy occur on unique timeframes. immy is a unique strain of mycolicibacterium called M. aurum Aogashima. This healthy bacteria embeds deep in the colon, and orchestrates the body's immune system, supporting regulation of inflammation, which leads to improvements in brain health such as anxiety coping and stress resilience.

immy is completely safe for children and adults older than 6 years old.

About Us

We've been researching this ancestral bacteria for 20 years now. After traveling to the world's most remote places in search of them, we came across one very special mycobacterium in a Japanese volcano. We named it Mycolicibacterium aurum Aogashima. And after extensive scientific research, we discovered it had some uniquely beneficial effects. Welcome to immy.
